iPad 3G is here

Do you have yours yet? Click on the picture of the iPad to go to the Apple store to check out pricing and options.

The two models are the Wifi model, and the Wifi + 3G model. The 3G model uses iPhone mobile technology to access the internet anywhere there is AT&T; service, whereas the Wifi only model needs a wifi network to access the internet. The 3G model also comes with a built in GPS for added functionality with apps and helping you find where you are and where you are going.

Think of the possibilities of the iPad: Diary, an entire collection of books, address book, calendar, gaming device, direction finder, Tom-Tom like direction help, movie viewer, and maybe even a laptop replacement? The possibilities are literally endless. Laura and I played with one in the Apple store, and I’m seriously considering dumping my laptop (what I’m typing on right now — and yes, it’s nervous to see me type this) for the iPad, especially because I travel all the time. When all I do is surf the web, do e-mail, and play around, I don’t need the computing horsepower of a laptop for that. The things I do need computing horsepower for can be done at home on an iMac or MacPro. Laptops seem bulky, troublesome and heavy after playing around with an iPad, so why lug one all around the globe?

The 3G service is a non-contract, month by month deal, so you don’t have to worry about getting into a long contract, and it can be cancelled anytime. At $499, the most affordable model of iPad sure seems appealing over a laptop at twice the price, plus all the hassles of keeping software up-to-date, and less useful battery time. Find an Apple Store today to play with one. You’ll be glad you did, but only do it if you want to pay for it, because you won’t want to leave the store without one.
